Dining in Montreal

Would love suggestios for restaurants in Montreal Valentine's Day week-end, preferably good French or local cuisine for lunch and dinners, moderately priced. Thanks!

I love Lemeac in Montreal. They have a website that you can check for their menu. If you go after 10 PM, they have a wonderful 2 course fixed price - I think it's maybe $25? A very good deal.

Montreal has a mind boggling selection of restaurants to choose from.
Some of our favorite mid priced ones:
Au Petite Extra - French - Ontario St.
Jardin de Panos - BYOB Greek - Duluth St - very popular & lively
L'Express - French - St. Denis
Lotus Bleu - BYOB Asian - Duluth
Cafe Cherrier - French Bistro - Cherrier - good lunch spot
Grand Comptoir - French Bistro - Sq. Phillips - good downtown lunch spot
Casa Tapas - Spanish - Rue Rachiel

Just fyi, the area where Duluth intersects St. Denis is lined with interesting byob restaurants.

We love those BYOB restaurants!

3 others that we enjoy in the Sherbrooke/Peel area are:
Guy & Dodo
La Capannina
Il Cortile

Guy & Dodo is closed.

JQ: Oh, no....when? What happened? They have been there forever.

I think it was December of '08. After 30 plus years it was time to retire.

OceanBreeze1 Jan 8th, 2010 03:41 PM

JQ, is there another restaurant there now?

Susan:
Thanks for the suggestion but I understand that Lemeac is also closed. Sounded good. Thanks to all the other suggestions especially the byob's. Ar there more French or local restaurants that are byob's? any oyher ideas?

JQ:
Hope you are correct. Strange the update on Trip advisor claimed that the restaurant has closed.

My family and I had a super meal in a restaurant called Le Poisson Rouge. It is run by a family where the daughter does the cooking, and the parents serve the tables. It is very reasonable and was one of the best meals I have eaten. Increasing, there are more and more restaurants in Montreal that allow you to bring your own wine at no charge and Le Poisson Rouge is one of these. It used to be a fish only place - hence the name - but it is no longer since this family bought it. Go to www.lepoissonrouge.ca and you will find everything you need, including menu and map. Do try it. You will not be disappointed.

I just checked Lemeac's web site and it appears to be a going concern.
