Day trips from Toronto?

Any thoughts on things to do in the Toronto facinity, perhaps within 3-4 hours of driving? We will be hitting Niagara Falls first, so that's out. We are traveling with a 13 year old boy who is NOT into sports. We will be visiting the third week of August.

If you have any suggestions of things to do in Toronto too we would appreciate those.

Are any of the comedy venues appropriate for 13 year olds?

Thank you!

It's about a two hour drive to Stratford where where, on some days, you can catch a matinee at the Shakespeare Festival Theater. This year, in addition to Shakespeare, they're doing "The Sound of Music," but I'd definitely run the idea past the young man before getting tickets.

If you're son's into amusement parks Wonderland is just north of the city, www.canadas-wonderland.com.
Ontario has some beautiful provincial parks - Sandbanks in Picton ( about 2 hrs) is one of Canada's most beautiful www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/parks.
Toronto has one of the world's best zoos. www.torontozoo.com.
Hope you and your son have a great visit to Ontario.

Your son probably isn't all that interested in art, but the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg has a good exhibit on right now. Georgia O'Keefe, Frida Kahlo and Emily Carr - plus the usual Group of Seven and other Canadian artists. We were there last weekend and were amazed at the crowds.

Also second the recommendation on the zoo. The new gorilla rainforest is supposed to be wonderful.

I'd vote for African Lion Safari, near Cambridge, west of toronto.

I was there two years ago with a five year old, and will be back there this year with a seven year old. Same kid.

We like it better than the Toronto Zoo. There's a waterpark as part of the attraction, too.

In Niagara Falls, the Maid of the Mist is well worth the (fairly small) admission price.

BAK

If your son is into airplanes you could do worsre than visit the museum situated at Hamilton airport. We spent a fascinating couple of hours there this year on the way from Toronto to Niagara on the Lake. The web site is:-
http://www.warplane.com/

Here's another vote for Canada's Wonderland. We thought it was great - clean, good selection of rides, relatively short wait on a weekday.

We also drove up to Midland to see St. Marie Amoung the Hurons - a recreation of a Jesuit mission to the Huron Indians. The buildings were well done - the "guides" could have used some improvement. Also in the same locale was the Wye Marsh nature preserve. Didn't visit but looked interesting. Wasaga Beach area was recommended too but again time didn't allow. Midland was about 2 hours tops from the Delta Chelsea Hotel in downtown.

Have a great trip.
