Day trip to Whistler in summer -- what to do?

What to do on a day trip to Whistler at the end of June? Scenic drives or hikes you can recommend? The Whistler website advertises the Peak to Peak Gondola that connects Whistler with Blackcomb. Sounds neat but it costs almost $40 pp for a day, and since it takes us 2 hours to drive up from Vancouver, we won't have much time to make use of it though.

I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

Hello, anyone on this forum?

Has anyone done the Peak to Peak Gondola? Does it go from Whistler village all the way to the top and across to Blackcomb and down to Blackcomb village? Does a single ticket cover all that? Or you have to buy different tickets for different segments?

We're going in the summer, so is it better to spend more time on Whistler peak to hike and see the scenery or Blackcomb? Which one is more scenic or has better trails?

Thanks for any info!

We loved Whistler! We took the Hummer ride up to the top of Whistler, on the way down, the driver stopped to show us a bear! You can get tickets in the village.

Thanks, star, for your response. Is there a road to drive all the way to the top of Whistler?

You will have no problems spending a day in Whistler. Walk around the village. lots of walks/hikes in close proximity to the village. The visitors info centre will probably have maps etc.

We will also be in Whistler this summer and would love to know of favorite hikes or activities.

We have the maps, etc. in our "travel box". I will try to dig them out this weekend, and will report back.

I called Whistler info desk, and they said most trails on the mountains are not open yet for hiking as they're still covered in snow. Most likely be open mid to late July.
