Day trip from Montreal

My husband and I are traveling to Montreal for a few days and would like to take one day to see the scenic small towns, wineries, etc. via car. Where do we go?

The Eastern Townships are worth considering. Magog, for instance, is a pleasant (although somewhat bustling) town popular for getaways on a lake about an hour from Montreal and there are a number of scenic drives in the area. Nearby North Hatley on another lake is smaller and charming. I haven't visited wineries, but there are several Fromageries (Cheeseries) in the area - Quebec is famous for its artisanal cheeses. Visit the Abbey de St. Benoit near Magog for award-winning blue cheeses, and check out this link for others: http://www.bonjourquebec.com/qc-en/05sep_fromages0.html . Another of the area's fromageries (don't remember the name unfortunately) also carried an excellent locally made apple-based ice wine.

Sorry, pressed submit too fast. Another vote for Eastern Townships and the Wine Route.

I agree with everyone else--try the wine route and other locations in the Eastern Townships. We have visited Vignoble de l'Orpailleur which has a good restaurant. You could also check out some cideries as suggested by mat54. We also like the town of Knowlton, a pleasant Victorian town with restaurants specializing in duck

Saint-Benoît-du-Lac on Lake Memphemagog is a beautiful spot, and you can hear Gregorian chant.

Chambly with its national historic site (fort) is another good place to visit
