Confirmed date - Toronto GTG, Saturday, September 26, 2009 -can you attend?

We take great pleasure in informing everyone the date of the third annual Toronto Get Together (GTG) will be Saturday, September 26, 2009. The location will be the Hot House Restaurant, located at the corner of Front St. and Church St. in downtown Toronto (the same location as last year). For those who need a landmark, it is two blocks from the St. Lawrence Market.

In August 2008, about 35 Fodorites met for an evening of socializing and sharing. This is not an "exclusive club", rather a group of folks who share a passion for travelling or talking about travelling. Most of us had never met each other prior to August 2008. There is no initiation fee, hazing or pyramid sales involved. You and your significant other (if you have one) are invited. If you enjoy Fodor's forums, you will probably enjoy meeting other posters in person.

Those who arrived early sat in the restaurant for a refreshing afternoon libation. Most arrived around 6:00 p.m. and made their way into a reserved special function room at the Hot House where we couldn't disturb other patrons. The Hot House had a number of menu choices available (average cost around $25). We socialized, supped, shared stories then socialized more. Katie_H (Fodor's editor) had generously arranged a few door prizes to be available. Thanks again Katie.

After dinner, Moolyn graciously offered her nearby residence for those who hadn't finished chatting with newfound friends.

The organizing committee from last year (moolyn, kodi, LJ - apologies if we have forgotten anyone) did a wonderful job making everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

Your next step?? Check your calendars to see if you are available. If you are, please check this thread occasionally to see the details coalesce . To contact our loosely composed organizing committee please email us at [email protected]. In the coming months those attending will likely post any good hotel rates they find if people need to stay overnight.

We will be posting an announcement similar to this on other Fodor's forums to inform posters who may wish to attend, but don't frequent the Canada forum.

Any questions - please ask and we'll do our best to answer.

Presently the following contributors have indicated they will be present: irecommend, BAK, SallyCanuck, Elizabeth_S, landineen, AnselmAdorne, LJ, kodi, ahmenhaff, teacherCanada, moolyn.

Several others have marked the date in their calendars: goddesstogo (and God too probably), tedgale, raquel_z.

Are there any others that have been missed? Anyone else interested?

Thanks for your early input.

Yes, I'll be there, with Jana.

We like the place.

Last week we ate in the restaurant, with a world traveller who used to have business responsibilities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Yesterday we parked under the restarant, when we went to do an interview and take a portrait over on Bay Street.

We like the people, too.

It's a nice group, with interesting stories.

But a little light on young people.

If you post here, or read here regularly, and you are under thirty, please note that you'd be very welcome, too.

I've just started reading/posting on the forums, live in Toronto and would love to come. I'm marking it on the calendar, may bring my dad or husband with me -- both are keen travellers.

Yes, the beginning of the season is always nice, but this year it's a particular treat to have them winning!
The reason I chose that moniker is because my first post years ago (and my only one until recently) was a question about where to go for a multi-generational baseball weekend. Someone figured I was a troll because honestly, who really plans a trip for a group including ballfans from age 4 to age 98? My kids and their great-grandmother share a family love of travel *and* baseball!

(We didn't take the trip, but I did remember to come back and check out the boards for this particular multi-generational trip in June 09)

Jaysfan,
Do you ever go to Buffalo for a Bisons game? It's really fun, especially for the little kids because they do tons of mascot stuff.

Jaysfan, if you want a fantastic scenic weekend, go to Letchworth State Park south of Rochester. It's really beautiful there. They call it the Grand Canyon of the east.

Look forward to seeing you and everyone else in Sept.

Just found this thread. Hopefully, I will be able to attend. i will confirm closer to the date.

The date is great for out of towners - after the summer rush and right after the TIFF. There should be some good hotel rates especially on Priceline and Hotwire.
