Cloudberry, a.k.a. bake apple grows outside Newfoundland

I visited Newfoundland the summer of 2009 and I highly recommend the province. Among the highlights were great hiking trails, beautiful wildflowers, bird and whale watching, etc.

Something that surprised me was that many people seem to believe that the cloudberry (or bake apple as it is called locally) only grows in Newfoundland. This mistake is also passed on in guide books. Instead, cloudberries can be found in several countries, among them my native country Sweden, and of course, Norway, Finland, as well as other Canadian provinces etc.

Another berry, lingonberry, or partridgeberry as Newfoundlanders call them, also grows in Sweden and other places, although there seems to be less confusion about that.

Riverdale - you are absolutely correct regarding cloudberrys / bakeapples.

I remember the first time we tasted ice cream with warm bakeapple syrup........
