We are spending 4 nights in Tofino, 2 nights in Vancouver and 3 nights in Whistler in two weeks. I was imagining shorts and sandals but then I checked the weather...brrrrrrrr! Do I need a heavy jacket for evenings? Long pants all the time??? Right now it is 98 degress where I live so it's hard to imagine cold in June! Thanks!

Mid-June can be chilly, esp. on or near the water and in the evenings. Definately bring long pants and sweaters/medium weight ackets -heavy jackets not needed. But certainly bring short-sleeved shirts and shorts also because you'll likely encounter warm days. If per chance you encounter a warm day in Whistler and plan on taking the ski lift to the glacier (highly recommended), most certainly take your jackets. It can be 70ish in the village and in the 40's at the top of the mountain, not even accounting for the wind.

You should always have some rain gear when coming to Tofino. We had a big rain yesterday (beautiful today again) but our guests weren't prepared for the rain at all.

Not sure what your activites will be, but if you plan to do outdoorsy things (and why else go to Tofino or Whistler?) then dress in layers, preferably with multi-function pieces, e.g. water- and wind-proof anorak with zip-out fleece lining, pants that convert to shorts by zipping off the legs, wick-dry t-shirts to go under a sweater, etc. Besides sandals (and I hope you're talking about walking sandals, such as Rockports, as opposed to beach sandals!) you'll want a pair of sturdy walking shoes. Add a couple of decent, mix-and-match pieces for evening fun, and you're good to go.

Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a good pair of polarized sunglasses, too. You may be surprised, especially when at altitude in Whistler...

Thanks so much!!!! It really helps to get other's input! I think I need to go shopping! Here we have two seasons - cold foggy winter and really, really hot dry summer!

staying. Most Tofino resorts have foul
weather gear available - slickers and
gumboots for sure.......

I don't know when you're going to
Whistler but the weather veers towards
the extremes - luckily, the village is
full of places to buy clothing for any
weather!

Without a Fleece Vest you'll not only feel out of place but might actually be breaking the dress code in many of the 'better places' you visit ;)
