can anyone recommend a good hop on/hop off type tour in Montreal?

I'd like to ask the same question about Vancouver: are there any bus tours of Vancouver? Not necessarily the hop on/hope off variety. (I live in Vancouver and am ashamed to admit I don't know the answer to this; I'm asking on behalf of some European friends who are visiting us next week.)

The answer to this question is usually Gray Line. Apparently not true for Montréal, but certainly true for Vancouver. See www.grayline.ca for the double decker, hop on, hop off buses in Vancouver.

Montreal has sort of a hop on/hop off tour in the summertime. Or, they used to. But, I wouldn't recommend it (though I can't remember exactly why it did not look very appealing).

Better bet is to take the 1/2 day bus tour in the morning. This is fabulous, and gets you into Notre Dame (not to be missed). Then, you'll know where you want to spend additional time on your own - and you can get everywhere easily via the metro.

I had a 1/2 day narrated tour of Montreal, I think it was GrayLine. Very informative. It's a good idea in any city to start your visit with a city tour.
