Churchill
 

My mother wants to travel to Churchill to see the polar bears, but is a bit concerned about the $4000 price tag of most package tours (at least the ones she has found on the web). Are there more economical tours out there? She's not much into doing it herself.

We went on a NatHab polar bear trip in November 2005 and thought the prices were high but the group size was small (ours was 12 + the leader)and all meals are included. NatHab took care of every detail. Sorry I can't help, but it's such a remote area that the number of tours are probably limited. It was a trip like no other and we're so glad we went.

unfortunately, it is a very expensive trip to take.

I went on a weekend trip with the Tundra Buggy, and it was less than half the price you quoted (not counting int'l airfare to Winnipeg). We did two buggy drives, which was enough for me.

Those $4000 trips, like the Nat Hab one are for wildlife enthusiasts (like me) who are willing to pay much more to limit the participants for better viewing and photography. I did a Nat Hab Churchill trip and was highly impressed, but it is not necessary just to see some bears.

The &quot;Adventurer&quot; trip on the link above is half the cost, goes to the same places where the polar bears are, but puts twice as many people in the vehicle. If you just want to see the polar bears, this is fine. Though nothing in nature is guaranteed, you'll likely see many each trip out on the tundra.

You can't go polar bear viewing yourself, even if you wanted to.
