Cell Phones in Canada

As seniors, we have somehow managed to stay out of the 21st century.

We talk and text some but no data. We haven't as yet reached the world of smart phones.

Now the problem. It appears Canada has switched systems over the past couple of years (since our last visit) so the phones we have that used to work in Canada (we are from the U.S.) no longer do.

Short of buying smart phones, etc, etc, is there a possibility of buying cheap phones, a phone card and limp along that way or some other way?

What kind of phone do you currently have?

We have LG Cosmos 2 cell phones.

My last trip to Canada was 2 summers ago. The phones worked then but Verizon tells us they won't work now.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to go to your local Walmart and get a Pay As You Go (PAYG) SIM card with phone (should cost about $30 or so) and ask the employee to sell you a plan that will let you use it in Canada.

The second easiest thing to do is to wait until you get to Canada and pop into a Walmart there and get a PAYG phone there.

If I walk into a local walmart and ask anything about Canada I'll get a blank stare in return.

I may try Walmart in Montreal or maybe we'll just do without.
