Car trip

Three ladies flying to Gander Nfld. from T.O.(live on Georgian Bay) andheading to Gros Morne.first thinking of a trailer rental($59.per nt. for three days or B.and B. in Rocky Harbour. trying to put together cheap trip but not miss the good stuff.Would like to drive to Viking settlement after but will that be too much time spent driving and mileage. We will fly out of St.Johns. One lady is 24...not too fit and two are early fifties who love to hike. Our wish list of things to see....whales, icebergs, puffins, Gros Morne-hiking/boat tour, St.Mary's, We are renting a car in Gander and dropping off St.John's to fly home. 13 days(two spent on plane travel Rental car$700.00!! think maybe"rent a wreck"could be cheaper.Torbay, saw a B.and B.would that be good when in St.John's

Ro, I haven't actually been to Newfoundland yet, but my husband and I are going this summer, so I've done a lot of research. You don't say how you're getting from St.Johns to Gander to pick up your car, so it's hard to know how much time you'll need to allot for this segment. What I can tell you is that relatives have done a complete tour of the island in 12 days and had a wonderful time. They were not able to be as active as they would have liked {knee injury}, which eliminated many possible excursions. We have allowed 16 days, and plan on arriving by ferry at the Avalon area, and then leaving, again by ferry, from Channel-Port-Aux-Basques. I think that 11 days MIGHT give you just about enough time to travel the expanse of the island, but you would need to prioritize.
Have a great trip. Maybe we'll see you there!

Ro, I read your post too quickly - sorry. I see now that you're actually flying into Gander. There is a b&b in Gros Morne called Wildflowers, or something like that, that has a good rep. Good luck! Molly

HI Ro,
We (2 ladies) had a wonderful trip to Newfoundland 3 years ago. There is so much to see and do. When are you going? The best place to see puffins is off the Avalon Peninsula south of St John's. We also saw whales and iceburgs here. Oh I have so much info to share!
...but have to go to work!
WE also stayed at ROcky Harbour, and rented a small cabin.
Have you sent away for the Newfoundland tourist book? It is excellent.

Hi Ro,

You'll have a blast! Grow Morne holds some of the most breathtakingly beautiful scenery you'll ever see. Lots of hiking opportunities if you like that. The Western Brook Pond boat tour is a must - it's absolutely stunning!

13 days should be fine. Yes, you could easily stay at a B&B in Torbay...what's it called? I've lived in Torbay since I was 5 years old! It's beautiful, right by the ocean, but still only 10 or 15 minutes from the city.

Email me if you have any more questions!

Christy<BR
