Any map from any gas station will do just fine.

When you say you've never driven before - do you mean you've never driven before or you've never driven this route before?

Makes a huge difference in advice about which route to take.

jasper then go stay for two nights in clearwater and explore wells grey provincial park. then go through Lillooet on your way to whistler. if you are not a confident driver, i'd recommend doing the route from Lillooet to whistler during daylight hours.

I agree with ltt to drive to Whistler from Cache Creek (Duffy Lake Rd) in daylight but don't let that comment frighten you - it's a good, abeit twisty, 2 lane road. Beautiful drive.
I wud also recommend you drive Jasper-Banff then Hwy 1 to Cache Creek thru Kamloops rather than Hwy 5 (Yellowhead) but it's just a personal preference. Either way is gorgeous altho #5 usually has less traffic than #1.

We are taking a road trip from Vancouver via Jasper to Calgary or visa versa. It seems to me that the best scenery is Jasper to Banff so I thought to go out of Vancouver. We will be traveling end of August and beginning of September approx 2 weeks or a tad more depending on suggestions)

The question is: from Vancouver (4 days) we will go to Whistler (2 days) Then the question is up route 99 via Pemberton , Lilioots, Clinton to Route 24 and Clinton to Jasper. If so what if any stops on the way and what BnB' s are recommended.

The alternative seems to be to go 99 just past Lilloots to Cashe Creek, Kamloops area and up to Clearwater and then up on Route 5 to Jasper. If so where to stay in Bn B's and what sites not to miss.

Which of these to routes is more scenic?

In Jasper we will be in the park for about 3 days.

The next question is we will do Banff, Lake Louise and perhaps Yoho Nat park. So from Jasper to Banff it seems the ride is at least 4 hours at that time of year not including stops. Anyone go a recomedation for a BnB at Banff or before it?

We then will drive through to Canmore where we thought we'd make out base for 3-4 days and do Yoho and Lake Lousie and possibly more of Banff before leaving from Calgary.

Is Canmore a good base or does anyone have a better recommendation with the name of a Bnb?

Thanks for all the advice and time

marilaz - i'm assuming you are a different person then the original post. that's not appropriate to start your own topic on top of someone elses. please start your own post so that we can answer each person's inquiry separately.
