Caprices de Nicholas
we will be visiting Montreal early July and would like to dine at Caprices de Nicholas which has been highly recommended. Any insight would be appreciated. We seem to dine in the same restaurants at every visit (chez la Mere Michel, Bonaparte, Nuances, Chorus, Les Halles) and, although we have never been disappointed, we would like to try a new spot. Any other ideas?

The restaurants guide from the Journal Voir gives a good review of les Caprices de Nicolas. If you read some French go on their Web site - it is really a good guide. http://www.voir.ca/guiderestos/choixregion.asp

Last fall, our concierge at the Le Germain highly recommended Caprices de Nicholas. Turned out we went to Le Petit Extra, which is wonderful , but nothing like Caprices de N.
Have you been to Toque? THat is the best restaurant (in my opinion) in Montreal, of that kind. Definitely better than Bonaparte, which was good but not close to Toque.
There is a restaurant called L'Epicier in Old Mtl that is very popular now; an older favorite of mine and not well known, is Guy et Dodo Moralis, on Mansfield, french and high quality, the owners are wonderful.
For steak, L'Entrecôte St.Jean on Peel is very nice and french. For fondue, take a cab to St.Denis street to La Fondue Mentale, make sure you reserve. L'Express on St.Denis is excellent also. St. Denis is a nice street to stroll on, if there are festivals going on, reserve early. Bice on Sherbrooke St. is a chic italian place with a nice terrace. El Cortille on Sherbrooke st. west has a hidden terrace that is astounding.

To All-
Thanks very much for your input. During our holiday in July, we'll be sure to try Caprices de Nicholas and look forward to experiencing Guy and Dodo Moroli (heard rave reviews but never had tried it).
