Canadian Rockies
My husband and I are planning to visit the Canadian Rockies end of August for 2 weeks+. We are interested in a scenic train trip. We are flying int and out of Vancouver, plan to stay a couple days in Vancouver before and after Canadian Rockies. There are many topics about where to go, to eat, to stay etc but not much about train rides. We are not hikers but good to walk all day. We like to visit Banff, Jasper...
Information about available train rides, bus rides will be appreciated. Thank you,. |
It's on the expensive side, but the 2 day Rocky Mountain Railtour train between Vancouver and the Rockies is gorgeous. You get off the train and spend the night in Kamloops so that you're only traveling during the day and don't miss all the great scenery (the VIA rail train between Vancouver and Jasper, by contrast, goes overnight so you can miss much of the scenery). You could take the train one way and fly between Vancouver and Calgary in the other direction.
BTW, Banff, etc are located in the province of Alberta, not the NW Territories ;-). |
Thank you NWWanderer. Does the overnight train only travels during the night? Do you have the link for detail info?
Do you HAVE to book with travel agent for the Rocky Mountaineer train? Or can one book for themself without the middle agent? Thank you. |
I would imagine a quick google search would bring up the appropriate websites for each train, which should answer your questions.

Thank you.

go to viarail.ca for the VIA train. It's called "The Canadian" and goes between Vancouver and Toronto daily. You don't need a travel agent for either train. |
