canadian border crossing?
 

Does anyone know what kind of delays I can expect crossing from vermont/NH into Canada on monday? Thanks.

I think it is impossible to predict. Truck traffic is already backed up at many border points, and there's no telling how Canda Customs will allocate staff to check trucks and to check cars with tourists and business people.<BR><BR>The Candian government has announced it is asking Customs Agents in Canada to help Americans clear trucks heading into the USA, so this will have some effect on the availability of staff to help people getting into Canada.<BR><BR>I'm also predicting, to the extent that predictions are possbile, that Americans trying to get back into the USA from Canada are going to be delayed unless they have lots of current identification materials with them, and there's some clear indication of when they left the USA in the first place.<BR><BR>My advice is to bring a book to read, make sure the gas tank is filled before you leave the USA (high USA gas prices are still lower than Canadian prices) and relax while you wait.<BR><BR>Enjoy your visit once you get here.<BR><BR>For Canadians returning to Canada from the USA, there's no telling how the Canada Customs agents will behave.<BR><BR>BAK

I crossed ontario/buffalo yesterday (Mar. 18) and had no prob - 10 min wait tops - Good luck!

What I heard on CBC radio this morning is that trucks are lined up for hours, but that car traffic is only a little slower than usual. What exactly is meant by &quot;usual&quot; probably has to do with the specific border crossing itself. It sounds like you'll be coming across into Quebec - I'm not familiar with that particular crossing point, but I've gone back and forth several times in Ontario at Queenston-Lewiston in the past year, and it hasn't really been all that bad. 15 minutes tops.

We went from VT (91) to Canada (20). It took us about 15 minutes. When we came back from Canada (15) to NY (87), trucks were required to stay on the right lane, which they lined up for at least 5 miles long. Regular cars/vans would stay on the left lane and eventually moved into multiple check points. It went pretty smooth for us, less than 15 minutes to enter NY State.

Generally speaking, you are not likely to encounter much of a line/delay going INTO Canada from Vermont/NH on a MONDAY.
