Camping Near Vancouver
 

Anyone have any names/recommendations of campsites within driving/ferry ride to Vancouver. A couple I see on the map are: Porteau Cave Prov. Park and Mt. Seymour Prov. Park.

Golden Ears Provincial Park north of Maple Ridge is another idea.<BR><BR>However, I'd personally suggest camping north of Vancouver nearby the town of Squamish (about an hour drive north). The campsites are on the beach and you have incredible views of Howe Sound and the local mountains.

Depends whether your priority is a nice camping facility or easy access to Vancouver.<BR><BR>The closest provincial parks to Vancouver are, as you've stated, Mt. Seymour and Cyprus. Both of these have wilderness camping only, though (i.e., no "facilities"). Porteau Cove is a little further, but has full facilities.<BR><BR>I agree that the camping north of Squamish is much nicer, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're going to be driving in and out of Vancouver on a daily basis. <BR><BR>Here's the web site for all the provincial parks in the Vancouver area.<BR>http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/regional_maps/vancouver.htm<BR><BR>The other option is to go private. Many of these are much closer to the city in terms of access, but not nearly as scenic locations. They generally have lots of facilities, though. The closest is the Burnaby Cariboo R.V. Park (which also has tenting facilities). There are several a little further out in the Surrey/Langley area.

Going along with the theme of R.V. parks, there's an R.V. park in Richmond on River Road, just across the river from the Airport and Vancouver (but at least a 20 minute drive into Downtown Vancouver).<BR><BR>It's not really a campsite, but I have seen the occasional tent there. It's not the traditional kind of campground, but it's an option if you plan to stay in a tent/RV and you want to be close to Vancouver.

Thanks for tips - Porteau looks like the best option re facilities and proximity to Vancouver. I've searched and you can reserve.

Thanks Artemis - I researched Burnaby Cariboo R.V. Park - just what we need for accessing Vancouver. We'll have enough of wilderness camping when we're in the Rockies, Yellowstone, Badlands, etc. When near a city, we'll appreciate the amenities. There's is convenient public transportation outside the door. GREAT
