camping in July in Nova Scotia
Are camping (tent) reservations necessary in the Halifax area and on Cape Breton for mid July? We prefer to stay flexible. Do the CBHNP campgrounds fill up each day and/or how early (reserv not available)? Can anyone recommend a nice camp near Halifax (public or private) and in the central Cape Breton area? Is it too windy along the coast for tent camping with a big tent? Thanks!

Dear Shirley as for camping in Cape Breton your really do not need reservations to camp in the national park. Any camp site on the Ingonish side of the trail should have spots. They do fill up quickly but there are quite a few in a row on the trail so don't worry if ones filled there should be a spot up the road a bit. As for camping along the coast its not all that windy, but sometimes a nice breeze is called for. So have fun & enjoy Cape Breton Island..

Like 10 years ago now, we stayed in Badeck at the KOA campground. AT that time, it was really nice.

I don't think you will have any problem with camping reservations. Check in with NS tourism in advance of where you think you will be for the day for provincial parks. I would highly recommend staying at the D&B campground in Pictou County. A great beach area not too far - awesome white beach with warm waters. Nice people as well. Enjoy your stay in NS!

I forgot to mention the campground at Ingonish. Although I have not stayed, many friends head there for a weekend. Great beach as well!
