Calgary Stampede Parade
We were told that tickets for reserved seating are sold for the Calgary Stampede Parade on Friday, July 5. Should we be trying to buy tickets or are there places to set up chairs along the parade route without tickets?
Do the reserve seating areas take up a major portion of the parade route, leaving few areas for other seating?
Does anyone know where the judging stand is located on the parade route?
|
There are lots of places to just set up chairs along the route, but get there EARLY, otherwise your chairs will be way back from the street. I don't know where the judging stand is, maybe someone else can help with that?

I just purchased 4 seats today I ;eft a message yesterday and someone called me back today> It was on the calgary-stampede.com website where I got the number to call.

I walked ot of my hotel and had no problem finding a place to watch. But it does get crowded

I wouldn't pay for tickets just be there early if you need to set up your chairs. If I remember right its lasts a long time. 3 hours ?? It is well worth it, don't miss it. Don't have too many coffees that morning. I don't remember any bathrooms around. Will try to find out the best place to set yourself up.
Have fun the stampede is a blast. The Grandstand at night in the stampede grounds is a must see. Be careful there also you can pay $40 or $10 or a lot more for tickets. We buy the rush seating for $10 and can see as well as if you paid $40. Depending what you can afford but make sure you check it out well.
Have Lotsa Fun
Regards,
Jan

Thanks for your replies and helpful information. The Stampede sounds like it will be great fun!
Our highschool is marching in the parade - go Lakeside Lutheran from Lake Mills, Wisconsin!

Hope you have a wonderful time at Stampede, Di and good luck to your band. I always watch the parade on TV (too old and too lazy to go) and I so enjoy the High School Bands. They are just awesome.

One of the links below shows you a map of the parade route. We watched it near the end on 9th Ave and 3rd St S.E. in front of the convention center. [There are bathrooms in the convention center you can use. People are setting up there chairs around 7AM. You cannot drive near the parade area at all they block off many streets so be prepared to do some walking. We take the Subway or train to avoid parking problems. Parade lasts about 2 hours

http://www.calgarystampede.com/stampede/
http://www.calgarystampede.com/stampede/the_event/stampede_parade/route_map.html
Try to get to the free chuckwagon breakfast at the olympic square downtown, not a big breakfast but a fun idea and plenty of entertainment. Also many of the malls offer free breakfasts around town.
As before Have Lotsa Fun
Jan

Howdy!

I agree with Jan, try sitting on 9th Avenue by the convention centre. We usually bring our chairs and get a spot by 7 am. There are usually tv stations that broadcast from around that area, so the bands tend to play there. I think that the judge stands are further up on 9th Avenue. Keep an eye open for the cameras.Remember to bring sunscreen and water as it can get mighty hot with the breeze being blocked by the office buildings.
Be sure to take in Rope Square at the Olympic Plaza (lots of entertainment and fun learning to square dance). Also, free wagon rides leave from this area every morning that the Stampede is on. LOTS of places for free stampede breakfasts. Check the local papers.

Happy Trails!
