buffalo airport to niagara falls ontario via amtrak

My husband and I will be staying at the Embassy suites fallsview in niagara falls canada. it seems like the least expensive public transportation to get from the Buffalo airport to niagara falls ontario is amtrak.($15/person/1-way)Any other suggestions?
Also, does anyone know how far the Depew Amtrak station is from Buffalo airport and.....how far the niagara amtrak station is from the embassy suites hotel?
Thanks!

On mapquest, it looks like its about 4 or 5 km from the airport to Depew Stn.

Another choice is Buffalo-Niagara public transit, which serves the airport goes as far as Niagara Falls, NY. But, I don't think you'd want to carry your baggage across the Rainbow Bridge. If you use a cab for that last leg, it could entail a dely at the customs, depending how busy thing sre that day.

You may check with your hotel for their ideas. I am sure many of their clients are in the same situation as you.

Here's the link for transit from Buffalo-Niagara Int'l. Airport:

Go to www.NFTA.com, then the metro bus link, then trip planner.

I am told that crossing the border by train is very time consuming because the train is stopped while border officials perform their duties. There are not enough cross border trains to do it like it is done in Europe where the officials do their checking while the train is rolling and then take the next train back.

Somebody may have an idea that is better, but recently I arrived at Buffalo Depew Station, with the intention of getting to the bus station in Niagara Falls, Canada.

Originally my plan was to take a taxi from the Depew Station to the Buffalo downtown bus terminal. There were local transit buses from there apparently to Niagara Falls, USA.

I had no idea how far Depew Station was from downtown Buffalo (or how disorganized it might be)! There weren't even taxis waiting when the train from Chicago arrived and the next bus downtown was not for 4 hours!

I had the ticket agent call a taxi; luckily I was first in line out of about 15 people. Originally, I told the taxi driver downtown, he said $30. Out of curiosity, I asked him how much to Niagara Falls, knowing it's really not that far from Buffalo; he said $80 to Niagara Falls Canada. Then I said "that's too much", and asked how much to NF, USA to the Rainbow Bridge. He says $60, I say how about $50, we agree on $55, and off we go. I then crossed into Canada via the Rainbow Bridge, went through customs as a pedestrian (fast) and walked to the bus station (I wanted an ongoing bus to Toronto). The Rainbow Bridge I see is very close to your hotel.

It's about a 25-minute walk, maybe 6-minute cab ride ($7?) to the bus/train station along the River Road to your hotel. There is also an accordion bus called "the People Mover" which goes from the bus station to the main falls area. The People Mover I was told was free, but this is not confirmed.

Anyhow you could do it your way: I'd imagine $15-20 for a taxi airport-Depew + $30 2 people Buffalo-NF + potentially long waits for delayed trains/going through Customs. Or you could go downtown by taxi ($30) + NFTA bus ($2.50) to Niagara Falls, NY (after which you have to walk several blocks to cross the border). But maybe the added expense for a taxi might be worth it to you in terms of time?

Good luck whatever you decide! DAN

PS I could have been lucky bargaining with a taxi driver from the 3rd world?

Don't know how long you are staying but I went to Hotwire and got a 3 day economy car rental for $68.40 Total. If you are going to pay $60 in train you might want the convenience of a car, if you aren't staying for very long.
