budget accomodations in banff
 

I m looking for reasonably priced accomodations for a two night stay in Banff with my husband, father and two teenage boys.Has anyone stayed at the Red carpet or the Rocky Mountain Inn? Any other suggestions? thanks

Friends of mine have stayed at Red Carpet Inn. They said that, while it was not fancy by any means, it was clean and comfortable. But, if you want self-catering accommodation for your family group, Red Carpet Inn does not have it, as far as I know.

Rocky Mountain Inn nominally has self-catering accommodation. The reviews at TripAdvisor suggest that, while the staff are friendly, the suites are not well equipped. Reportedly there is a bare minimum of equipment in the so called kitchens. (But I have never stayed there, and am only quoting what the TripAdvisor reports say.)

There are other self-catering accommodations in Banff, like Douglas Fir Resort and Hidden Ridge Resort. If they are too expensive for your budget, check out Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge in Canmore, which is 12 - 15 minutes' drive east of Banff townsite. It's a motel-like property that could be described as "cheap and cheerful." But it does have self-catering suites, its owners care about it, and it is clean.

last christmas. they have a family unit that has two queen beds in one room with lots of room, tv, access to balcony. in the other room there is a queen bed and a small couch that pulls out to a bed, tv, coffee maker, small fridge and bathroom. this room is pretty packed. we had 4 adults and it worked fine for us. very reasonably priced and in a great location. they don't have their own pool but you just run across the parking lot and use the indoor pool and hot tub at the neighbor hotel. very friendly staff. clean room, nothing fancy.

I stayed at the Red Carpet Inn twice and found it perfectly fine. Walking distance to the center of town, clean, friendly - would definately stay there again.

Have any of you stayed at the Lake Mcdonald Country Inn in Canmore? It sounded good on Tripadvisor. Kathy

Yup. I really like it. But it's not quite as inexpensive as the other properties that have been mentioned in this thread. Still, it's a cute place, and the price includes a sumptuous, cooked breakfast.

By the way, Kathy, if you're interested in that sort of place, I also like Georgetown Inn, which is directly across the street from Lady Macdonald Country Inn.

Lady Macdonald has about a dozen rooms, and Georgetown has about two dozen. Both places include excellent cooked breakfasts. I would say that, of the two properties, Lady Macdonald is just a tiny tad more upscale than Georgetown (in the sense that the dozen rooms each has its own unique decor, etc.).

I have never experienced this problem myself, but SOME travellers have complained about train noise at night when they've stayed at either Lady Macdonald or Georgetown. Both properties are located on a street that runs parallel to a railway line. I've only ever stayed there on weekends, when rail traffic reportedly is lighter. Folks say that rail traffic is heavier on week nights, and is more of an issue then. I don't know if that would bother me. Believe it or not, I actually love the sound of trains. However, I thought that in fairness I should mention it.

I'm not sure how budget this is, but Brewster's Mountain Lodge is great
