bringing wood lumber from BC to Alberta

I saw signs at Alberta provincial boarder to BC saying, that some restrictions apply concerning bringing wood lumber from BC to Alberta.

It is not clear for me to whom these restrictions apply.

Can we bring fire wood in small quantities from BC into Alberta or is this illegal?

Tom22, I'm not sure about the specific ban in Alberta, but I grew up in a city where block after block was emptied of trees by Dutch Elm Disease and now live in an area that's under quarantine for Emerald Ash Borers and Asian Long-horned beetles. So, I can say that such bans apply to everyone crossing the boundary.

Firewood is especially dangerous because, unlike milled lumber, it is not treated and still has its bark which can harbor any number of fungal diseases.

Because these pests are not native to North America, the plants have no defence against them. Once they enter an area, they wreak havoc.

The Alberta government website has info at: <>.

British Columbia has a bad problem with Mountain Pine Beetle. I believe these beetles can be in or under the bark in firewood from BC. Please don't bring firewood from there to Alberta. We don't want pine beetles. They are destroying huge amounts of forest in BC and though it may be inevitable that they cross the Rocky Mountains let's hope we can stop it. In the past the bugs would be killed off by cold stretches in the Winter but with global warming we just are not getting the long stretches of below minus 35 celsius any more. Not that that's all bad!

Do not take pine from BC to Alberta as Lunabug said.
However, I have read that the war against the pine beetle is over. We have lost. Supposedly within 5 years there will be no more pines in North America.
