Bostonian needs help planning camping trip plus few days at hotel for Montreal Jazz Festival

My wife and I and 14YO son hope to combine a camping trip for 2-3 nites plus 2-3 nites at a reasonably priced hotel/motel for Montreal Jazz Festival. We'll leave from Boston by car and will gratefully consider any ideas/guidance on camping areas of natural beauty where we can have a good camping experience--and then on to the Jazz Fest. which I believe is the latter part of June.<BR>Many thanks<BR><BR> <BR>

Sounds like a great time. How many days is the Jazz Fest?

The festival is from June 27 to July 7. <BR><BR>Here's the website: http://www.montrealjazzfest.com/ <BR>the website isn't great.<BR><BR>For camping, you can check this: http://www.tourism-montreal.org/1_0/1_2_13.htm<BR><BR>For lodging, don't know about rates but better to prepare early. The Jazz festival is a big deal so don't wait too long.

I've never camped in Quebec, but there are some nice Ontario Provincial and St Lawrence Commission Parks not too far from Montreal. See Voyageur Park at http://www.ontarioparks.com/voya.html and the three campgrounds along the Long Sault Parkway at http://www.stlawrenceparks.com/campsite.htm<BR><BR>Given the number of Quebeckers that use these parks, I presume they are better than what are available in Quebec.

Joe, the jazz festival is a lot of fun, I've gone several times. I don't know of any campgrounds in Quebec (I'm sure there are some nice ones) - however there is a beautiful state campground in northern Vermont on Lake Champlain, near Hero, sorry I can't remember it's name. Realize that once you cross over into Canada the landscape changes to a flat, farmland countryside, almost like the midwest. There are lots of moderately priced hotels in Montreal. I would recommend staying a few blocks away from all the crowds, like on Sherbrooke east near St. Denis. There are seveal chateau style hotels in this area such as the Manior Sherbrooke, Argoat, Residence du Voyaguer, and seveal others.
