Border delays during G-8 summit

I am just posting this for the benefit of anyone who is crossing into Alberta during the week of the G-8 summit (June 27-28 in Kananaskis) and possibly as much as a week to 10 days before.

The Alberta government is closing the border to anyone that border control deems may be here to protest. All people who are carrying any items that could be construed as items of protest will be denied entry. The list included such things as ski masks, paint, handcuffs, etc.

Also, expect long delays as all cars will be searched.

Thank god the government is doing something right! Who needs more radical malcontents at a G-8 summit.

Gee, I've driven from Vancouver to Calgary dozens of times and I have yet to see any border station between BC and Alberta. Has "Uncle Ralph" come up with something new ?

You're so cute, Oh Really. But just in case you really have lost your mind, obviously the post was meant for those crossing from the States.

Traveller, perhaps you can then explain by what authority the Alberta government can close an international border? And what forces might they use, since Alberta has neither an army nor a provincial police force?

They are not closing the border to everyone, just closing it to whomever they deem to be a protestor. There will be significantly more manpower at the border stations and according to the news, all vehicles will be searched. Incidentally, I did not post this as a political post but rather as an informative post so that those wanting to cross the international border during that time would be aware there could be significant delays. The Canadian armed forces (according to the paper, along with the RCMP will be assisting in manning the border).

By what authority? When does Klein need authority to do anything? He does what he wants, when he wants and how he wants. You obviously don't live in Alberta.
