border crossing delays?
Has anyone crossed from the US to Canada or vice versa in the past few days? Are there now long delays? I'm planning to go to Montreal thru Vermont this weekend and was wondering what to expect. I wonder if they are now requiring passports?

I'm not sure about Vermont/Quebec but in general the huge delays have been modified especially entering Canada. However on entering the US the old days of 'Where were you born?; Where are you going? and 'Have a good trip'" are over. We have been told that drivers' Licenses will NOT be acceptable and Passports or Birth Certificates are the only guaranteed ID for getting in or back to the States.

Go on Google and search for Canada-U.S. border crossings. There should be up-to-date info. on one of the sights that will come up there.

We just got back from 2 weeks in Canada. We crossed the border at Detroit/Windsor both coming and going. We have passports, if you don't, I would take birth cirtificates in addition to drivers license. (I haven't heard that officially, but things are tighter than normal.)

Anyway, it took 20 or 30 minutes each time. They do take longer with each car - so at busy times, things do get backed up. Both sides opened all the car doors and looked around as well as having a look in the trunk.

We crossed to Canada through Windsor on 9/22 and returned to US yesterday (10/1) through Port Huron. We had passports with us. Took 15 to 20 minutes each time. Search of car was more thorough going into Canada than returning. Not really a problem at all.
