Bistros and restaurants in Montreal

Hi - We are getting to spend a week in Montreal this June. Would appreciate your recommendations for Bistros / restaurants in the Vieux Montreal, Chinatown, Mont Royal and any other areas of the city.

for reference - we typically like to go for good solid food not really the haute cuisine "fru fru" tastebuds (or pocketbooks) here.

Merci / Thank you..

I'd recommend Lemeac. They had a fixed price menu for $22 after 10 PM in the evening and that's what we did the second time. Loved it. It's on Laurier West. You can google it and look at their website.

www.chowhound.com would be a more exact place to find montreal and quebec listings

There are so many choices. For good, inexpensive food in a fun atmosphere, Le Jardin de Panos on Duluth street (Plateau area)is hard to beat. It's a byob Greek restaurant featuring brochettes of all kinds plus some Greek specialties. A belly busting, delicious chicken, beef, or seafood brochette with salad and roasted potatoes will set you back about $15, and you bring you own wine. There are many other Italian, Afghan, Thai, French, etc places in the same area - all quite good, most are byob, many have outdoor patios.
