Biking in and around Quebec City

My spouse and I will be spending a week in old town Quebec City at the end of August and beginning of Sept. We like to bike - but prefer nothing too strenuous and not more than 30-35 miles/day. We are looking for bike tours both in the city and for self-guided or guided day trips near the city. Outside of the city, we'd prefer not to be on public roads with traffic.

Can anyone recommend a company that offers bike tours in and around the city? And do you have any especially scenic or charming routes to recommend that fall within the 'not to strenuous 30-mile/day' limits?

I don't know any company but for some nice rides on bike paths...

- Montmorency falls. You can go as far as Cap Tourmente on quiet the Royale avenue. Check the wind before going to far because you could turn around and have a surprise. Royale ave has a few very steep but very short hills. You can also ride on Ste-Anne boulevard, which has high traffic and huge shoulders.
- Along St-Charles river.
- Across to Lévis and go either left or right off the ferry.
- Westbound Champlain boulevard. I don't know how far that goes.
- The Cheminot bike trail, which becomes the Jacques-Cartier/Portneuf trail. This is a rail-trail about 100km long starting downtown and going deep into nature to Rivière-à-Pierre. If you have a car, I'd suggest starting somewhere around the Lorettevile ice rink (arena) or west of that. There are also nice walking trails around Wendake.

Most of those trails are visible in Google Maps if you check the bicycling option.

The Provence of Quebec has the best bicycling network in the world. Many of the trails are dedicated to bikes only. Go to the Route Verte website for lots of info.

We drove, not biked, along part of the Chemin du Roy south of Quebec City in June. It is part of the Route Verte mentioned in the last post, and my husband, the dedicated cyclist in our family, is interested in biking along it.

krishnan,
If you get a chance upon your return would you be so kind as to post some sort of trip report about your biking experience in quebec? We contemplate doing something like this.
