best sushi in Toronto?
 

Hi folks!!

So we went to Toronto last year and had a great time, and we will be returning in about a week.

Last time, we had fantastic Chinese food (thanks to BAK) at Lai Wah Leen. This time, we are hoping for some excellent sushi! Need not be fancy- just good quality, etc.

We will be staying at Le Royal Meridien King Edward- so if there is any recommendation in that area, even better!!

I've not been there yet, but Blowfish has had excellent notices. Perhaps someone can provide a personal review.

Ki at 181 Bay Street, and Takesushi at 22 Front Street West are very close to your hotel and I can recommend both. If you Google them you can check reviews, and each restaurant's home page for menus, prices. I strongly recommend making reservations in advance. Have fun!

Thanks for the suggestions! Has anyone tried the "Sushi Train"? I'm curious about the conveyor belt... Blowfish looks good, too- my one consideration is whether they have enough "non-fish" sushi. I'm actually a vegetarian- always in search of good veggie sushi!!

princessjudy: can you tell me if takesushi is as fancy as Ki seems on their site? I just figure that if we are going to have dinner after the Blue Jays game... it would be nice to NOT have to get too dressy.

Takesushi is casual dress. It is a tiny restaurant and will be on the route back from the game to your hotel on Front St. My work buddy is a vegetarian and she likes Takesushi.

According to my wife, who actually enjoys this stuff... Fune, at the corner of Simcoe and Adelaide Stret West, in the basement.

Leave the hotel and turn left / east and walk along King Street, crossing Yonge, and keep going past the giant bank towers several blocks, across extra-wide university avenue, and one more block to the Elephant pub. Turn right / north and walk up two short blocks and you'll be there.

The sushi bar is int he middle of the restaurant, and is the boat-type.

Semi-casual, semi-formal restaurant; we eat lunch there quite often, and I'm almost always in jeans. Good teriyaki, which is what I eat.

Thank you for your suggestions! I was so impressed with the Chinese food we had in Toronto- very much on par with the restaurants in NYC's Chinatown that I visited as a kid. I look forward to trying out some Japanese cuisine this year!
