Best Montreal Restaurants

I am travelling to Montreal on business and want to arrange a top-notch dining experience for my clients. Any suggestions?

Do your clients already live there, or are they visitors, too?

And if visitors, where are they from, and what are they like?

I've taken visitors to gibby's, for great steaks in old Montreal -- these were hearty guy kind of guests.

And I've taken clients to Chez La Mere Michel, which is elegant and formal and the food is very, very fine.

Restaurants that I would like someone to treat us to:
Zen in the Omni Hotel
Toque
Les Halles
and I always love Cafe Ferreira
All would be perfectly suitable for business dinners and your clients would love you :)

"Le Caveau" is right downtown, close to McCord Museum and offers classic French food in an unpretentious setting. For non-hip, non-trendy, traditional fine-dining this is it. I know the business crowd uses it regularly. The restaurant in the Ritz Carlton is also highly regarded for its traditional fine-dining experience.

For personal attention and top notch french food, Guy & Dodo Moralis on Metcalfe is my favorite smaller restaurant; for a trendier atmosphere, Cavalli on Peel st. is my 2nd favorite, more subdued on weeknights, avoid from friday on.....

Ferreira is great but tables are cramped and it's mostly fish. I have not tried it, but Verses restaurant in the Nelligan hotel in Old Montreal is being touted as fantastic.

I guess it would depend also where you are staying and if you want a central location or it does not matter....
