Best Brunch in Mtl?

Attention, Montreal restaurant lovers: Am looking for a really good brunch spot! Need something elegant, as we're celebrating a relative's 93rd brithday. Checked out Hotel St James but was disappointed....

Four people - forgive me, but would that make a difference?!

The Beaver Club used to have a fabulous brunch.
Rather large room though, are you looking for something more intimate and quiet ?

What disappointed you at the St. James, I'm curious ?

Buffet style or not, the brunch you're looking for?

Brunch could be sit-down or buffet! Was hoping for something a little more interesting than the Beaver Club (correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd say that place had its hayday in the 70's and 80's!)
Re the St James, Mitch, The hotel has a very luxuriously appointed dining room which was practically empty. However, service was spotty. They were slow to fill up the coffee cups (really tiny ones), forgot the orange juice and for some weird reason, brought toast as a "first course "instead of serving it when the egg dishes came to the table. There was a rather greasy smell lingering as you entered the dining room. Anyway, was glad to have sampled it but wouldn't rush back there.

An institution in Montreal for brunches (or maybe more late breakfast) would be Beauty's (93 MONT-ROYAL OUEST(514) 849-8883).

phinn, that's horrible, I understand now.

beauty's is a diner, fun but not festive or elegant at all.

Chowhound's forum would be a good place for recommendations, a lot of serious mtl foodies there.

I went on the QE website, no mention of the Beaver Club brunch.

Lévesque on Laurier street does a brunch but I've never been; so does Leméac.

funny thing happened. After posting the idea of Beauty's, I did realize the OP was looking for something elegant and did re-post saying that I realized Beauty's was not a good idea. The post was never published...

Sorry

Best brunch in MTL? Not exactly relevant to this post, but my fav brunch spots in Montreal are la Faim du Monde on St. Denis and Aux Vivres on St. Laurent. Vegetarian/Vegan, healthy, innovative, tasty, creative brunches that are hors l'ordinaire. Example: I've had stuffed portobello mushroom at Faim du Monde for brunch...amazing!

That said, the ambience is more granola/crunchy than elegant (the brunch changes periodically and is written on a chalkboard at Faim), although Aux Vivres is not the hippie/Bohemian hangout it was in the 90s, catering more to a yuppie/Westmount/Outremont healthy eating crowd these days. Therefore, you won't be tempted for this occasion, but they're one of the few places I go these days for brunch in Montreal (I'm less tempted to go to classic egg joints..if I want an omelette with cheese/spinach, I'll make it myself).

Maybe another time you'll want to go (if you're vegetarian or have vegetarian friends with you)...

TVM for all the suggestions. The original idea was to celebrate the b'day of a well-travelled, aged aunt from out of town! Think we should have stuck to Lemeac or the like....Hope she can return for her 94th next year!
