Best Areas to Stay in Montreal and Quebec City
I am planning to travel to Montreal and Quebec City this summer. Can anyone advise me on the best areas to stay in in each city? I want locations that are high traffic, more tourist areas, i.e. lots of restaurants, shopping, attractions nearby, preferrably within walking distance.
Thanks.
Thanks.

In Montreal, you basically have two choices: the Old City or the downtown area. Both have lots of restaurants. Old City is touristy and picturesque, while downtown is more modern hussle/bussle with department stores, etc. Downtown hotels which are in the hearth of the action are Hotel de La Montagne, Vogue, Omni and Queen Elizabeth.
Quebec City is a very compact place, so upper city or lower city doesn't make a whole lot of difference in terms of traffic and animation. You'll be close to everything either way.

If this is the Holiday Inn on Sherbrooke, it's a very good location, in the heart of downtown. I've actually stayed there. You are about 1 1/2 blocks from the Metro, 2 blocks from St. Catherine St,about 5 blocks from the old city, and about 10 blocks (or a 10 minute subway ride) from St. Denis.

We live in New Hampshire and visit Montreal 6 nights a year. We found the Delta Hotel to be our choice for a Centerville(name they call downtown) hotel. Both the Delta Montreal and the Delta on University are fine hotels without matching the prices of the most expensive hotels in town. This year you can get a Premier lever room, free parking(worth $18 per day) Free Breakfast for two ($30 per day) and a hotel connected undergroud to the Metro all for about $135 US per day. The resturant is at the top of the hotel in a revolving resturant that gives great views of the City. Call the hotel and ask for this package deal. They also have a weekend deal that includes free river cruise, Museum passes, and breakfast for about $125 US. Great locations, nice people, we have stayed with Delta for 12 years.
A great city. Enjoy!
