Berkshires MA to Niagara Falls - Your advice please

Partner and I will be travelling around the Berkshires MA after new years (Jan 02)
We are considering making a trip to Niagara Falls as it has always been an ambition of ours to visit and we think that it would look spectacular in the winter.
Basically we need to know how long it would take to drive from Berkshires to the falls? Where would be a good stop off point to spend the night and split up the journey?
Also how long do you think we should allow for travelling (As weather may be quite bad) ?
All suggestions and Advice appreciated

Distance between the Berkshires and Niagara Falls is probably about 6-7 hours depending. The NYS thruway is the best route probably and it's not exactly scenic. Syracuse is probably about the halfway point. If you're into casinos, there is a Native American run casino in verona, NY, which is east of syracue and near Utica, NY. That might be a fun stop. YOu are correct in thinking that weather may play a role in your trip. You could hit clear weather or snow anywhere along the trip.
You are correct that Niagara Falls is beautiful in the winter. If it gets really cold, there is an ice bridge which forms over the falls.

There's no mid-point worth stopping at in january, unless you enjoy photography and want to see the museum at Kodak in Rochester. Otherwise, just drive during the day, and plan to stay in Niagara Falls Ontario that night.

BAK

I recommend staying overnight in Skaneateles, a cute town on Skaneateles Lake, just west of Syracuse (not an interesting place to stop in my opinion). The Sherwood Inn is an old, cozy inn with good food and nice rooms. There is also a new inn/spa named Mirbeau which looks nice. It would be about 3-4 hours from the Berkshires.

My wife and I stayed overnight in Niagars Falls years ago. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have stayed in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. A much nicer town and not terribly far from the falls.
