Bear Trail Inn

My husband and I are looking for somewhere to spend our 30th wedding anniversary. I was wondering if anyone has stayed at the adult-only Bear Trail Inn, near Algonquin Park? It is pricey, and I am hoping to get some personal reviews before deciding whether or not to book it. Thanks so much.

I was there just after Canadian Thanksgiving last fall (2004) with my husband and parents (they were treating us)for two nights. We had rooms in the lodge on the second floor; all of which have a private balcony over-looking the lake. I believe we had the standard rooms which included a fireplace, queen bed, small sofa and full bath with jacuzzi tub.

I was very impressed with the breakfasts and dinners which are included in the room rate; a range of choices, fresh and well-prepared.
The service was very good as well. Our servers were mostly young local people and quite friendly.

The property is quiet and extremely well looked after and all the equipment/amenities we used or observed were in very good condition (they could use some newer ping pong paddles however, minor complaint!). The owners seem to take great pride in their business and treat their guests well.

Being so close to the park is a big bonus as well, lots of choices of things to do if you wish to leave the resort.

All in all, I would give it a hearty recommendation, especially for an anniversary. Congratulations and feel free to ask for further details if you wish.

Hope you aren't planning this during black fly season May to July or mosquito season June to end of July? Otherwise you will probably be spending the better part of your vacation indoors or as lunch for the insect world!

We stayed there in late May of 1995 and have never been back, choosing instead to stay in more economical places in the area. Our attitude being that we are there to visit the park and staying at an expensive place does not make sense for us. Obviously the tradeoff between price and quality is a personal one and I don't seek to impose my ideas on others. The food there is certainly the best of anyplace that we have had in the area.

Good morning.
I notice this is rather an old post. The Bear Trail is now known as the Couples Resort. And yes, if you don't like bugs our area can be rather pesky! LOL But the Resort is on a lake and the bugs are kept to a minimum by the breeze.
And the prices are a little more than a hotel room. The food has just gotten better since 1995!
