Bayshore Inn - Waterton

Could anyone who has stayed at the Bayshore Inn please tell me if there are rooms that are "better" than others? We like the looks of it on their website & really want to stay near the water. It's only for one night on our way from Banff to Kalispell.

Are you asking if one room in the Bayshore is better than another room in the Bayshore, or are you asking if other motels in the immediate area have better rooms than the Bayshore?

I think the Kilmorey is a better motel.
But, you have to look at top room against top room to really decide, and then start scaling down a little so that your are reasonably close to comparing apples to apples rather than apples to oranges.

Of course defining "better" is often very difficult.

Nothing in the Waterton townsite is far from the lake. The Bayshore is the closest motel to the water of the ones I know about.

Last year I stayed at the Shintangle Springs Bed and Breakfast just outside the park entrance. It is a nice place, with motel-like rooms of generous size.
The drawback is that it is not near the lake.

On the other hand, if you take the evening boat cruise you will return about dark and after that you cannot see the lake anyhow, unless there is a nearly full moon. In that case the view of the lake on a clear night is spectacular.

PS. In June and July, the days are so long that the evening cruise returns before darkness.

We were there in late August, and darkness was upon us as we returned.

Yes, Bob, I was asking about Bayshore Inn rooms only. We (2 couples) decided (from looking at their website) that we liked the location of the Bayshore and their prices are good and it's only for one night. Those things considered, what do you think? We have a reservations for Deluxe, lakefront rooms. Mainly looking for comfortable bed, clean bathroom, convenient location.

The Bayshore was a good motel when I was shopping for motels in Waterton. I did not stay there that trip for a very good reason: full.

If standards of comfort and convenience have been kept up to date, I think it would be a good choice.

At one time, it was the "honeymoon" spot in Waterton whereas the Kilmorey was for folks that had a little more to spend.

I still think that the Bayshore is a good buy when compared with the Prince of Wales Hotel. It has a commanding view! So at least go up and take a look.

Given the amount of time you will have there, I hope you can fit in the boat ride on Waterton Lake. It is quite scenic. There is a stop at the US end for a short spiel by the US Park Ranger. You get to cross an international boundary without showing your passport, which you don't have to do in Europe among the EU nations.

In driving from Waterton to Banff, I strongly suggest route 40 that takes you from Longview, AB, past the entrance to Peter Lougheed park and through some of the most glaciated peaks of the southern Canadian Rockies. You join the Trans Canada Highway east of Canmore and head west to the junction for Banff townsite.

Banff Park itself is HUGE. Banff town is one place I avoid when possible.
It is good for getting money and groceries!
