Baseball
We'll be in Toronto, July 3-5, Montreal July 6/7, Sherbrooke 8-11 and QC 12/13
My teenage son is desperate to see a game of baseball (we're Australian so he only plays cricket). We're just going to miss the Blue Jays in Toronto but I wondered if anyone knew of a minor league comp anywhere in these cities - even a Little League game would be interesting to us. In lieu of baseball is there any other typical Canadian sporting event I could take him to? |
The Canadian Premier Baseball League (CPBL) plays several games in Toronto during your visit... the league features several local teams of teens divided by their age groups, 18u to 15u as well as girls teams... there is a schedule listed on their website... have fun
|
Other than the amateur CBPL I think you are out of luck for baseball as the semi-pro and minor league pro teams in Toronto and Quebec will be out of town when you are visiting. I'm not aware of any teams in Montreal which still longs for the return of a major league team.
For other sports you can catch Toronto FC, a top Major League Soccer side or in Montreal the Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (Canadian football is similar to American football but more exciting). |
Thanks, the CPBL sounds like fun and a good comparison to our own junior sports' leagues.
And will definitely check out the Alouettes ( I didn't even know Canadian football was a different game!) |
Not only is Canadian football different from the American game, albeit similar in many features, it is older. The game was introduced to the US when McGill University of Montreal challenged Harvard to a match in 1874. At the time the game was much closer to rugby.
