Banff Shopping

In '95 my sister found, in one of the malls in Banff, a shop that sold "sun-protective" clothing. Not ordinary stuff, but almost mesh-like, which made it cool and comfortable, and it also protected against the UVA & IVB rays (or so they said). Now it's my turn to visit Banff, and I've been given a shopping list, if I can only find the shop! No name, no address...just a description of the product!
HELP please!
Thanks much.
Marlyne

Hi, Marlyne,
I was last in Banff about a year ago, and I reccommend you just stroll the downtown area where all the shops are. The malls there are tiny affairs, each housed within a single building, so it's not as daunting a task as it may sound. I don't remember the clothing you're talking about, but we generally don't shop for clothes up there. One thing that may help - the hotal should have a large, glossy tourist guide to Banff book/magazine in the room - they're divided into sections like dining, shopping, etc. - the guide usually gives a brief description of the types of wares offered in the shops they list. Have fun!
ja

I've seen something like what you're describing here in Phoenix; it's quite unique and is probably produced by a limited number of manufacturers, so if you do a web search, you might find store locations vis. a vis. a manufacturer's website.

There is a store that sells a variety of the sun proof clothing you have mentioned through the web. The store's name is Cabela's: www.Cabelas.com.

The service was reliable, the clothing top quality and the sun protection in the clothing I purchased was very effective, even in the hot Africa sun, where I wore it.

They will do free hemming on pants, which is an added bonus.

Hope this helps you out.

DiDi

I know the shop that you are looking for, unfortunately I cannot remember the name. The protective wear is produced by the Tilley company (they are best known for the Tilley hats.) I believe the shop is on either entrance level of the "mall" or bottom level. It was a corner shop. You shouldn't have any trouble locating the mall (which is on the main street of Banff). It was the only mall when I was there last year. You could try looking at the Tilley website for locations for their products in Canada.
