Banff/LL Which Gondola Best
We are going to be there June 27 with 7 year old, which gondola best for us. Someone mentioned that LL has a grizzly centre, any comments welcome. Thank you.

You may find a grizzly in Lake Louise centre, but I wouldn't say it was a grizzly place. It's acutally very nice, but, aside from the lake itself, there is not a great deal there.
Banff is the main town in the area, and it's where nost people stay. Both gondolas have great views, so it may come down to whether you prefer the quiet life or not. |
Both,,,,i lived in LL for 2 years(10 years ago),,but both are great,,and offer 2 different views.. Banff has views of the town and valleys and Hotsprings at the bottom of the gondola, natural and veryvery relaxing,,dont drive after,,lol,,
LL has views of the lake and then the opposite view is the back country. If I may suggest,,if your going to both or just LL take the 1A drive,,not the main(but it used to be) better chance of seeing wild life, herds of Rams, moose, deer, etc. plus theres great spots to stop like the ink pots, bubbling holes of lava with different colours(natural)...hope this helps,,if you only have one day then probably Banff,,then the town has other things for a 7 year old |
I/ve been to Lake Louise--haven't ever heard of a grizzly certre. But a couple of years ago, the museum in Banff had a great exhibit about bears--my boys loved it. I like the gondola ride in Banff--haven't been on the one in LL as we usually just hike a lot there. You'll find plenty to do. My boys love hiking to the teahouses at LL and getting a snack. That is always one of the must do things.

I think the 7 y.o. would like the banff gondola better. There is a weather station at the top and a short area to walk around. Also some "wild"life. As I recall, the gondola at Lake Louise is the ski lift operating in summer. For a glimps of the Banff view, check out this link:

I agree with WG79. I have done both with children and the Banff gondola is more interesting. If you hike up it is a free ride down! We did it when my youngest was about 6. Mind you, it took us about 4 hours with a picnic lunch and lots of snacks.
