Banff/Jasper dog friendly accomodatoins
Can anyone recommend nice dog friendly accomodations in and around the Jasper/Banff areas? I'll be spending a week there in September and plan on taking my two dogs.

I believe Johnston Canyon Resort is dog friendly. They are cabins on the Bow Valley Parkway near Banff.

Christie,
Before you plan on taking your dogs, you should understand that there may be a difference in what you consider 'dog-friendly' accomodations and what 'we' do. I worked tourism for many years in BC/Alberta. In my experience, an establishment that considers themselves 'dog' friendly, is merely indicating that there is ample space nearby for the dogs to have a pee and a run. They may even provide some water and source of shade. THE GENERAL ASSUMPTION IS THAT YOUR DOG FRIENDS WILL BE SPENDING THE NIGHT IN YOUR VEHICLE. Some place will allow a dog indoors providing the animal be carried into the facility (and hence this would also limit the size of your companions) -AND REMAIN- in a travel crate. One of the above posters suggested a private home. I think this is a great idea. I do recommend that you ensure your dogs' vaccinations are up to date and that you carry record of such. |
One of the time share resorts in the Interval International program is the Banff Rocky Mountain Resort; I believe they operate as a hotel as well. I've stayed there with my dog.

Thanks for the responses. I've checked out both Johnston Canyon and the Banff Rocky Mountain Resort and am trying to decide between the two - leaning towards Banff Rocky Mountain Resort because they have kitchenettes. And I will certainly check that my dogs can come inside!
