Banff and Jasper, late June or late August?
After changing my vacation plans from Europe in May due to work conflicts and not wanting to pay the high airfares during the summer months we have decided to visit the Canadian Rockies this year. We've always wanted to visit and I'm looking into visiting for 9 days. I'm looking at dates in either late June or late August in order to avoid mosquitoes, but we are certainly open to July if they won't be that bad. We are an active couple in our 30's interested in hiking, rafting or canoeing, horseback riding and doing a glacier walk. As always any advice is appreciated.

Late summer and early autumn would be my recommendation. June can be prime mosquito season, but it varies year to year, depending on how wet spring is.
By late August there could be frost at night, which kills those little annoying pests off.
Days are much longer in June than in August - if that's a consideration for you.

I would also choose late August. Some of the schools start back the end of August so there are fewer families travelling. We have visited the first couple weeks of September. We have never had mosquitoes.
This area is a hikers paradise. 3 months to the day you are in the Lake Louise area, schedule the bus to Lake O'Hara.
We have never done the horseback ride but I always thought the ride to Lake Agnes would be great.
The Canadian Rockies Trail Guide by Brian Patton is one of the best hiking books we have ever purchased.
