Banff Accommodations-Help please.
 

We we be going to Banff in August and would like a suggestion on where to stay. We would like someplace clean and with close access to the park. Preferably under $125 US per night. Any sugguestions?

Banff is in tbe park although you could stay in Canmore which is about 20 minutes away by car. The Best Western Pocatera Inn (Canmore) is excellent value with a fireplace in every room plus a swimming pool. As for Banff I have a whole list of hotels I've stayed at. Try albertabb.com for listings of bed and breakfasts in Alberta. Canmore and area is cheaper than in the park. Also try staying in Yoho in the town of Radium, just outside the park. Radium is about an hour west of Banff and you could also stay at the Radium springs Lodge just inside the park. Whereever you plan to stay, book early as summer tends to fill up quickly.

Banff can be a little expensive in the summer. May I suggest you look at the various hotels in Lake Louise (about 30 minutes from Banff)

Actually, Lake Louise tends to be more expensive than Banff in the summer, since there's fewer options there. <BR> <BR>If you're looking to spend US$125 (Cdn$180) per night, you won't have any problem. The Banff Springs may be a little higher than that, but have a look at the Rimrock Hotel, Caribou Lodge, the Rundlestone, Banff Park Lodge, Tunnel Mountain Chalets, and possibly the Rocky Mountain Chalet & Resort - all should have rooms in your budget and all are very nice hotels. Another nice place is Cathedral Mountain Chalets in Field, B.C. (Yoho National Park) - its only about 20-30 minutes from Lake Louise, and a nice quiet spot on the road to Takkakaw Falls. <BR> <BR>But be sure to get reservations soon wherever you decide to stay - these places DO fill up in the summer. Hi Susan! I was glancing through the replies to your posting and didn't see anyone mention The Douglas Fir Resort. We've been to Banff twice and have stayed there both times. We like it because every private lodge has its own main floor suite w. pullout couches and an upstairs loft. If you have kids as we do this was great- put them to bed and relak, have a few drinks downstairs etc... The cabins are not fancy, but clean and well-appointed- kitchenettes etc... Also has amazing rec facility w. pool and super-slides, video arcade room etc... all great when travelling with kids. <BR>Enjoy!
