We asbsolutely LOVED the Auberge Sans Soucy in Old Montreal. It is at the quiet end of the street and the staff is so wonderful. Breakfast includes pastries baked each morning that rival anything I had in Paris. It was well under $200 US.

Hi TracyB - You might consider the Plateau area, a great neighborhood with a 50-acre park in the middle of it. You can see more here: http://www.LoveLetterToMontreal.com
Here are three good B&Bs, but there are many other choices in the Plateau:

The Plateau would be especially nice if the weather is warming and the lakes are filled in the park.

Jardin d'Antoine is right in the heart of all the action on St Denis, which is part of the plateau area. Great location - safe, very lively, but may be a bit noisy at night. My daughter stayed here a few years ago and enjoyed it. It's typical of the small European style hotels found on the Plateau.
