Anyone got a recipe for Sugar Pie?
Loved the Sugar Pie we had in Quebec(as well as all the other food we had!)
Can anyone tell me how to make it? I would be really grateful. |
Hi:
A search on Google under "Tarte au Sucre" will give a number of recipes. Regards. |
Thank you very much for that George. I have now found some good websites with recipes.

I have a "to die for" MAPLE sugar pie recipe if you are interested.

Carylspall, what memories! YOu've reminded me of the sugar pie I ate every single day when I was in Quebec.
I wouldn't dare try to get it at home. I'd be gaining pounds and pounds every week! |
traveller, can you post it, please ?
|
Yes please traveller69! Post it when you have a few minutes to spare please!
Thank you! |
Here you are!
1¾ cups maple sugar ¾ cup whipping cream 2 eggs beaten 1 Tbsp butter combine ingredients and cook slowly until thickened. Cool. Pour into 9” unbaked pie crust and bake at 450 Degrees for 10 mins then lower to 350 degrees and bake for additional 50 mins. Cool and serve topped with whipped cream. If you can't find maple sugar where you live it is easy enough to make your own you just need a candy thermometer. I also have a recipe for a double crusted pie but I prefer this one. Enjoy! |
Thanks so much for the recipe. Cant wait to try it out, but the diet has started -the pounds went on pretty fast in Quebec!!!

Traveller69!!! I have just realised that it was you who came to my rescue over my dilemma on booking Initiale for our friend's 50th birthday. Another Fodorite had put me off ,bit you said it was the best food you had tasted. You were so right! The service was wonderful - they were waiting at the door to welcome us. we had the tasting menu - yummeeeeee! When dessert arrived they gave our friend a Happy Birthday iced message on her plat!It was the best! The only place we have had food like that before was in London and it cost half as much again. Thank you for such good advice! Hope I can help you sometime.

I am so glad to hear that you went to Initiale and enjoyed it. We were going on the Canada/New England cruise a couple of years ago and the highlight for me was that we were going to Quebec City so I did my research. Initiale was so highly recommended that I decided it was THE place to go. I called two months ahead to make reservations just to be sure. The day the ship was in QC the rain was incredible. I live on the West Coast of Canada and am certainly used to rain but that was something else again. A lot of passengers decided not to get off the ship in the evening but nothing was going to stop us. We were like drowned rats when we got to the restaurant (It was only 3 blocks from the dock so we walked under a shared umbrella) and like you said - we were greeted at the door and made very comfortable. Then the food started to arrive. I will certainly never forget that evening - and by the time we were finished the rain had stopped and the stars were out. A very memorable night! |
