Anyone Flown to U.S. from Canada since new regs?
Has anyone flown to the U.S. from Canada since the latest carryon regulations were imposed?
We are flying in Jan and want to know what exactly IS allowed? E.g. I have read that only a purse is allowed, then elsewhere that a small backpack is allowed.
Any restrictions on the contents of purse/backpack??

We flew to Dallas from Vancouver on 1/1/10 under new regs.
Ticket agents (American) were very strict in making you check bags of any size - agent argued it was a tote bag as opposed to a large purse. I suggest a small purse. I did see some laptop cases as well.
It was a pain!

Did you notice what men were permitted to carry. My husband won't be carrying a lap-top. Did you see if any men had small bags other than lap-top bags.
I have a medium purse that I am hoping they decide is a "small" purse. It would be nice if they published some bloody proper guidelines!

Whenever we travel my SO carries our reading material in a 'bookbag' -- more or less one of those fabric briefcases with a shoulder strap. I'm assuming that won't be allowed anymore. What on earth are we supposed to carry our stuff in?

Scotia, thx for that link. That "small purse" looks pretty big to me. That's great!
Heading to Palm Beach next month & stressing about what will be allowed. I usually do "carry on only" so these new Regs are really messing up my "routine". And, we usually get to the airport 2 hours b/f but now they want us there 3 hours b/f which means 5:30AM for our 8:30AM flight....getting up @ 4:30AM. may as well not even go to bed the night b/f.

I have relatives who travelled right after it happened and they said even the agents did not seem to know the rules- one person had to take laptop out of bag and just carry the laptop -
someone else in a different line got to carry laptop in bag but there was something else they couldn't bring - (forget what they said it was)
Maybe they have it a little better organized by now- hope so because it sounds like a real pain

I just travelled from Toronto to Phoenix. They didn't say anything about my oversized 'purse'. But what I didn't expect was the secondary inspection that took a long time where every passenger was patted down and everything was minutely inspected.

We will be coming from Australia flying with New Zealand Airlines via New Zealand to Vancouver. I am wondering what the regulations will be like from this side? We are not leaving until August, so have lots of time to get organized and check with NZ airlines.( I will be on blood thinning injections for the first time travelling and have always had my other medication in a carry on bag )
How will I go with the new regs?
( I will not put my medication in checked baggage as have had lost suitcases in the past when flying overseas.
Whilst in the US and Canada, we are flying with:
American Airlines ( Seattle to New York )
Air Canada ( Toronto to LA )
United Airlines ( LA to Hawaii )
then Air New Zealand back to Australia from Hawaii
Interesting thread.

Thanks traveller 69. I will of course check things out before we go. In Australia we do not have any constraints on hand luggage. We have flown in the US and Canada before but it was only the liquids we needed to be careful with.
