All day layover in Vancouver BC - Possible to see Stanley Park?
Flying from Vancouver BC. Will have an all day layover in Vancouver and planning to get out & see Stanley Park. Any other suggestions? I hear the food is fabulous there

You will have no problem at all - take the "SkyTrain" - their rapid transit system - from the airport downtown. Google it - it has one of the best developed trip planners & transit websites I've seen.
From downtown, you can take the Seabus across the harbor to Lonsdale Quay - a marketplace with all sorts of independents in a food court area, and lots of shops on both levels. The ride over gives you a good view of the Vancouver skyline. If you buy an all-day transit pass, you can use it for the Seabus too.
If you want something more outdoors, carry on from the bus loop at Londsale Quay and head up to the Capilano Suspension Bridge or Grouse Mountain.
Downtown is very small and walkable: you can walk tony Robson area, walk all around Stanley Park until you get to English Bay area. Vancouver Art Gallery. Don't waste your time at Gastown. Chinatown is on the Skytrain line too.
Too many food options to list but there are lots of fab choices regardless of which area you are at, everything from greasy spoon to high end and lots of ethnicities. Post what you're looking for and others will chime in with faves.
There's so much to do and eat you really have to provide some parameters of what your interests are, composition of travel group, etc. for posters to give you effective recommendations.
I love Vancouver - have a fab trip!
Enjoy-la!

Thanks for all the info - sounds perfect. Will leaving our luggage at the airport be a problem? We don't want to be lugging it all around Vancouver. Any suggestions if the airport doesn't have a service?
We looooove seafood. Are very outdoorsy and just love to see new places and things. And we are on a budget so need to watch expenses - stuff that's free or low cost would be great for just the two of us - we are celebrating our wedding anniversary during our vacation.
Thanks again.

If you're outdoorsy and active, head to the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge. It's where I go for the natural beauty, the free part is just a bonus! You can spend hours there wandering the trails. Here you'll leave the gift shops behind but the Ecology Centre will let you know you aren't the first to tread here. Take the Seabus to Londsdaly Quay, shop the market for amazing picnic items and take a bus from the bus loop right there. It's been a few years since I've been so do a google search to get all the details.
If you want something really active, hike the Grouse Grind.
I'm sure locals will chime in with other ideas.
Enjoy-la!

I was just there and we did the " Hop on- Off " trolley- they run every 30 min and you can get off and back on for a flat fee- Stanley Park is one of the stops, also Granville Island.
The downside is that sometimes the trolley is full when you want to get on and you have to wait for the next one - didn't happen to us but I heard others commenting on it.
Nice way to see some of the city- went through China town, Gaslamp area- we bought our tickets at the hotel we were staying but I believe you can buy them right at the trolley stop

Hello All -
Thanks for all your help and responses. We had a FANTASTIC trip to Alaska. Great weather - Yes!!! And with your help, the itinerary we planned went perfectly.
Hoping to get back to Alaska in the springtime to Fairbanks to see the Northern Lights. We think we saw them briefly one night while on the ferry at 2AM as it left Wrangell, but it was just a glimpse. Who has been to Chena Hot Springs for that?
Thanks again.
Jeff & Judy Joel
P.S. The skytrain worked well and leaving our luggage at the airport was not a problem. Everyone was very helpful. Went to Boontown for lunch. Will be going back to Vancouver soon - our airmiles allows us to get back there for a free trip so we want to take advantage. Nice town and so much to see.
