Airport to fly into if going to Cape Breton

What is closest airport to fly into if we want to go to Cape Breton? If it's Halifax, how long does it take to drive to Cape Breton? We would go in the fall so would be interested in scenic drive with good fall color.

Most carriers will fly into Halifax - however, you may want to check about connecting flights to Sydney in Cape Breton. It is approximately a 3-4 hour drive from Halifax as you enter Cape Breton Island. The Cabot Trail is a must - take a few days to explore.

Is it a scenic drive from Halifax to Cape Breton?

There's a fairly direct, fairly dull drive, but if you take a bit more time and drive up the Nova Scotia Atlantic Coast, and then turn east, you'll enjoy beautiful scenery (Salmon River, for instance) and interesting historical sites, including Louisburg.

BAK

The drive from Halifax to Cape Breton can be direct (and perhaps somewhat boring) as the previous post indicates, however, not sure what the airlines would charge for a connection. It might be cheaper to drive. You will see great foilage along the highway as most of it is wooded. Once you arrive in Cape Breton, the scenery is so spectacular you won't mind the 3-4 hours to hit the causeway entering the Island. There are a couple of routes you can take - depends on how long you have? You will need at least two full days on Cape Breton Island to fully enjoy what it has to offer.
