Airline to Tofino
 

I am in the process of booking a flight for next year to Tofino thru Vancouver.

Does anyone have the names of an air service to Tofino. I do not want to use a sea plane.

I've never seen anything other than float planes in Tofino. There is an old air strip about ten miles from Tofino, just off the Highway, but I'm not sure whether it's still used.

Sonic Blue Air, a divison of North Vancouver Air, flies the Vancouver - Tofino run.

Tofino is a town of about 1000 people. No large aircraft flies there, so while you're not searching for sea plane travel, you won't find any large jets flying there, that's for sure.

As a matter of interest Tofino does have a full size airport but there is no control tower. The airport was built during WWII and was used by the RCAF as a practice landing strip up until a few years ago.

I have been to Tofino before, landing in Victoria and driving the "curving roads" to Tofino. This trip I plan on only staying in the Tofino area, so it doesn't make sense to spend time making the long drive to and from Victoria. I know Tofino is small and thought only float planes landed there. Right now I am very happy to start checking the airlines mentioned. I have flown the small "puddle jumpers" many times and have no problem with them. I've had problems with vertigo on boats, and I am afraid to take the chance of ruining my vacation by starting out on a float plane.

Do any of the above airlines every run sales?

I doubt that they run sales. They're all small operations with a fleet of just a handful of aircraft. I've never seen them advertise a sale, though you could phone them, I guess, and ask.

Brandessa, if it makes any difference (you said you are from the US) you can fly North Vancouver Air from Seattle non stop to Tofino as opposed to leaving from Vancouver. This makes customs almost non-existant (the pilot runs into the airport for a minute and shows your passports, and that's it). They are not float planes, but very small (8 passengers) and they land at the Tofino Airport, which is a tarmac behind a budget rental car off the main highway. About 1 hour from Seattle, and last summer it was high $200s per person (US dollars). Well worth it for us. Good luck!
