Airline tickets US to Canada
 

Can you recommend a consolidator for low fare airline tickets. I have gone to the usual comparative websites and tickets are pretty much the same price. Any suggestions for a tour or travel agency who might have lower priced tickets?

You'll rarely find anything cheaper than Kayak ( www.kayak.com ) can provide.

If you're lucky you may catch one of the airlines' seat sales.

A strategy that sometimes works, depending on your specific Canadian destination, is to fly to the nearest American city and then cross the border by land. For example, it often is cheaper to fly to Seattle than to Vancouver, British Columbia. (I specify Vancouver BC because there also is a Vancouver in Washington State.) Then you can use the Quick Shuttle bus service to go from Sea-Tac Airport or from downtown Seattle to Vancouver Airport or downtown Vancouver.

But, if you contemplate that option, be sure you're comparing apples and apples rather than apples and oranges. That is, make sure that the air fare to Seattle plus the bus fare plus the extra time does not represent a larger cost to you, overall, than the air fare to Vancouver.

Some travellers who are destined for Toronto fly to Buffalo, New York. As far as I know, Buffalo and Seattle are the American airports that are most commonly used for accessing Canada.

I followed your posts on the Africa forum, and saw that you described yourself as an elderly woman travelling independently. On the Africa forum you were enquiring about hostels.

I don't know if you intend to drive in Canada. If not, and if you want to cover some of Canada's vast territory outside of the cities, e.g., the Canadian Rockies, you may be interested in Moose Travel Network. It operates hop-on/hop-off buses, and its clientele is comprised primarily of young and young-at-heart travellers who stay in hostels. (But you don't HAVE to stay in hostels if you travel with Moose.)

That's cool that you noticed my Africa inquiries as well. In September I am flying from Seattle to Montreal. I don't have my ticket yet and want to get the best buy. However, so far the price at every site looks the about the same.
In October I am going to South Africa. The responses to my inquiry were great and I got an excellent price on a ticket as well as ideas for where to stay.

It's just a thought, but since you are flying to Montreal, you might want to check out the flights from Vancouver to Montreal. I don't know what prices you are finding, but a charter flight out of Vancouver might work out better.

might as well forget it ! No low airfares in Canada .

I am not sure what prices you were getting but try sungwing, westjet any charter airline. They are cheaper than the schedual airlines. Reason being the scheduals fly if the plane is full or not and normally they have more regular flights. Charters fly less often and only when the have x # of seats sold that is why they sell for less. You can also get seat sales with them. If you are not tied down to having to book in advance then try waiting for a seat sale. Sometimes the closer to the departure date the cheaper the seat.
