advise/input on roadtrip to Montreal, Nova Scotia and P.E.I.
 

can a road trip from T.O. to Montreal onto N.S. and P.E.I. be fun for a family of 6, with 3 of the 4 children under the age of 6? or are we kidding ourselves..mom needs comfort/luxury in accomodations...double stroller could be a setback to hikes or good restaurants? need some feedback..as we are thinking of taking this trip soon..7days total.

That is a pretty ambitious trip without children...3-4 of your 7 days will be driving, depending on how well your children travel...I would do less driving and stay closer to home but I don't like the drive from PEI to TO..Best of luck with your holiday plans.

Note: I'm originally from Southern Ontario and I used to live in PEI and Montreal.

Agree with the previous poster. TO to PEI is about an 18-hour drive. Add stops to that and you're looking at 2-3 days one way, mostly filled with driving. That's most likely way too much for your kids and will take up half your vacation time!

Why not just head to Montreal? It's a fairly easy 5 hour drive from TO and there are lots of activities for kids.

I agree with previous poster. We are two mature adults and do this trip (Toronto to Lunenburg NS), 5-6 times a year roundtrip. We go by Montreal, Quebec/Levis, Edmunston etc and that is 18-19 hours, split over two days solid non-stop driving. It is grueling and that is without kids.

I agree also that you would spend too much time in the car and not enough time vacationing. How about Doing a couple days in Montreal and then a couple days in the Quebec City and Charlevoix areas of Quebec? There's more than enough to fill up a week and plenty of luxury accomodations in all of those spots, plus you'd get the mix of big city, smaller city and rural area/great scenery all in one trip.

I live not far from Toronto and love the East Coast - have done the drive 4 times (and flown a couple times). I agree - I can't imagine doing it in 7 days, even without kids. You won't have time to get off the highway or see even the main highlights.

Wait until you have, I'd say, at least 10 and preferrably a good 12 days. There's a lot to see, and it's spread out, especially in Nova Scotia (Halifax, Cape Breton, Lighthouse Route - all very different and exceptional. After travelling so far, you'd want to spend time exploring at least 2 of these regions, each of which would require at least a couple of days just to get a "taste" - in addition to time in PEI and travelling time).
