Accomodations in Lake Louise and Jasper
Does anyone know anything about the Sawridge in Jasper? Or we are looking for a place to spend 4 nights in Lake Louise and a couple in Jasper. A cabin would be nice but we don't want anything too rustic or remote from the town centers since we're not barbecuers, and like to browse around shops as well as enjoying the outdoors. Preferably under $200 a night in US$$.

the sawridge is a fine basic motel. i've stayed there several time (although not too recently). i'd book there again.
i'm not sure if you can get a room for under $200 but if you can, stay at the post hotel in lake louise. |
Hi Travelerwife,
Lake Louise village is very small and has no shops worth mentioning, IMO. If you want a town in which you can stroll and look at shops after dinner, you'd be better off in or near Banff and Jasper, I think. |
Hello travelerwife -
You shouldn't have too much problem fidning accommodation under $200 USD - at today's (May 7th 2004) exchange rate that's $275 Canadian dollars. Here's a website that may help you with your search for a place to stay: http://www.explorealberta.com/ Judy is right about Lake Louise. Although Post Hotel is a lovely place (and has an awesome dining room, by which I mean great food and an amazing wine cellar), unless you are going to drive to the lake, there is nowhere to go for an after dinner stroll. So if being close to shops and town centres is an important consideration for you, Banff and Jasper are the places to stay. |
We're in Jasper right now, and a nice hotel in your price range, and near to the "downtown" area, is the Tonquin Inn -- nice rooms with a cabin-type feel and fireplaces, and only a short walk to all the shops, etc, as well as walking paths...

Oh wilbanc I'm so jealous :'(!!! After a tough week, at work & etc, I NEED to see some mountains and to breathe in some cool crisp mountain air!!

Oops! I meant "wilband" - sorry about that. I have been making too many typos lately. Is that a sign I need a holiday or what???

I knew I shouldn't have peeped at the board - I want to go to Jasper now!!!! June 20 can't come fast enough for us.
travelerwife - as mentioned before, the Sawridge is a good, basic hotel. Clean and comfortable, within walking distance of the shopping area in town. |
I agree. Lake Louise village is small and there is not a wide choice of places to eat. Moreover, motels are expensive.
I suggest Banff if you want to spend your time shopping. |
