A few Toronto Questions
 

I am flying into Toronto (Pearson Airport) on Sunday and staying at the Renaissance Downtown. What is the best way to get from the airport to the hotel? Are there convenient ATMs to get CAD? Also looking for solo dining options for Sunday evening. TIA.

WEll the first thing I would do is find out if your hotel offeres a shuttle.

If not, then if you are looking at 'best' as least expensive, then take the TTC (Airport Express) bus to the Kipling station subway, the eastbound line to Yonge/Bloor station and southbound to Union station and either walk or splurge on a quick taxi at that point (you are a 5-10 minute easy walk by then).Will cost you $2.75 for TTC and $6.00-$8.00 for taxi.

Alternatively, there is a Downtown Hotel bus and I believe it is around $20 (but perhaps others with more recent experience will chime in?)

A taxi or limo will run you $35-$55.


There are ATM's everywhere downtown and, if you need $ before you leave the airport near the exit for buses, limos etc.

There are sop many solo dining options in downtown TO, I don't know where to begin. You can ask by preference here or check out the Toronto Board on Chowhound.com for specifics. MY personal favourite in that area remains Papillon( big, friendly, elegant,great salads, crepes and you won't stand out on your own)......Richtree if you are really self-concscious about being solo (no one would ever know, its one of those self-serve, do you own thing market-types)...your concierge can point you in the right direction.

Is that the hotel in the Rogers Centre/Skydome?

Thanks for the replies. I checked the hotel website and they don't offer a shuttle. It is in the Skydome, I think. It is on Blue Jay Way. If I take a cab will the cabbie accept credit cards? TIA.

The cabbie will most likely accept credit cards.

As for dinner -- what do you like?

Blue Jays Way runs north from the hotel, and has Wayne Gretsky's sports bar. On the iothr hand, the Soho Metropolitan Hoel has Sen5es (that's a 5, not bad typing) and it's really close too. Probably the most expensive restaurant in Toronto.

King Street West, which runs east and west a few blocks north of th hotel, is packed with restaurants.

Front Street West, which is even closer, has half a dozen informal but pretty good restaurants two or three blocks east of the hotel.

ATMs. We've got two kinds. Some belong to real banks, and have reasonable rates. Some belong to entrepreneurs, and have higher rates.

I believe, but do not know for sure (things change) that there is an RBC bank machine in a building with the RBC logo on it, between the hotel and Front Street.

Most restaurants also take debit cards, and lots offer cash back when you use one, so you can get some money pretty easily that way, too.

For Solo dining, consider the entertainment district... there are several bistro choices along King and Queen W... theres a certain electricity in the area with the people attending shows, concerts, games, movies, and clubs... we like Kit Kat Club for Italian, Queen Mother Pub and anything that has a interesting menu as we walk around...
