A day in Halifax
 

I'm spending just over 24 hours in Halifax before I leave for a long trip abroad. Any suggestions on the must-sees for such a short amount of time? Any restaurants/ exciting places suggestions would be much appreciated! I'll be there in the end of August if weather conditions make a difference!

I love Halifax but exciting is not an adjective that comes to mind when I consider the city... adjectives such as pleasant, charming, relaxed, interesting, dignified, friendly come to mind instead. 24 hours is not much time, so I'd probably focus on a historic walk visiting the Waterfront, the Citadel, Barrington St., Spring Garden Road and the Victorian Gardens. Maybe take the ferry over to Dartmouth if you just want to get on the water.

First decision: stay in Halifax, or go south, to Peggy's Cove, Chester, etc.

That might depend on whetheryou want to remember rural, oceanic Canada, or urban, historical, Canada.

If you stay in the city, mke sure you go to the maritime museum and other historical aras along the waterfront, so that whenm you arrive abroad, you'll understand what people from far away saw when the first approached Canada, decades and even more than a century ago.

This may seem nosey, but how old are you?

My DH and SIL to be live in Halifax and THEY would certainly call it exciting! it has a great pub scene, some terrific restaurants and a very lively music/club/cultural vibe.

But, for others, the charm, the scenery, the views, the history and the olde world shopping thing is the desired top-note.

IF I were going to spend 24-ish hours in Halifax before an overseas journey, I think I would just take it easy and occupy most or all of the waking hours in the center of the city. Roam around Citadel Hill, and up and down the city streets including Spring Garden Road... and just let your impulses take over. Sure there are places you COULD go, (Peggy's Cove for lunch or dinner)... but any of the trips to outlying areas would just cut a great deal of travel time out of your short window.

I vote for just staying in town.

I'd agree with staying in town. There's enough in Halifax to enjoy a day (actually for more than a day), so why look elsewhere?

Definitely visit the Maritime Museum. If you're interested in history, Pier 21 is interesting - it also really puts travel then and now into perspective. Citadel Hill, the Public Gardens, the waterfront can all provide leisurely strolls.
